The Center for Healthcare Transparency (CHT) is designing a five-year strategic plan to provide healthcare performance information to the majority of the US by 2020.

PBGH believes that purchasers, health plans, and consumers will choose and reward efficient, high-quality providers once their performance is visible and the public trusts the information.

Because there are many leading-edge efforts underway across the country, CHT’s builds upon existing regional healthcare cost and quality data aggregation and measurement best practices.   CHT envisions a national network of locally governed regional entities that will make reliable cost and quality information readily accessible to the public.

Some of PBGH’s specific project responsibilities include:

  • Conduct R&D pilots to facilitate usability of emerging tools.
  • Develop best practices for network and benefit design to assist purchasers in using performance information.
  • Evaluate use of alternative payment models by purchasers that motivate providers to redesign care delivery and evaluate the measures needed to enable reformed payment.

CHT is a newly established 501(c)(3) that has made a substantial subcontract to PBGH, through CHT’s primary contractor, the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement (NRHI).
